History and Overview
Lizz is a Fishers Island version of the 12-1/2’, a version that was developed when the residents of Fishers Island NY approached Herreshoff to modify the 12-1/2 to better suit the waters of Long Island Sound. The results are wider side decks, an elevated aft deck and the tiller coming over the top of the transom.
LIZZ has been well cared for over the past three winters by East Passage Boatwrights in Bristol, RI with multiple upgrades and minor restorations completed to keep the boat looking and sailing like she did when launched.
In the Spring of ’22, Lizz’s Marconi rig was swapped for the more traditional gaff rig. New spars were purchased from Doughdish on Cape Cod. The boat was outfitted with new stainless steel standing rigging and three strand Vintage running rigging. She received a new suit of Harding Sails including Main, Jib and Spinnaker.
During the Winter of ’23, Lizz came back to East Passage for some hull work. All topside and bottom paint was removed from the hull and splines were glued into all the plank seams. The splines will help stabilize the hull, keeping the hull paint from cracking from seasonal shrinking and swelling of the plank seams. Another benefit of splining is that the hull remains watertight, eliminating the need for the plank seams to swell when she if first launched. The hull was then faired, primed and painted.
Lizz comes with a galvanized Triade float on/off trailer, making it easy to launch and haul the boat yourself. She also has a transom hung removable Torqeedo electric motor. Lizz is a great boat is is ready to go sailing!
